Get Started Growing Flowers and Herbs

Want to add a little green in your living room, kitchen, or on your porch?  By planting flowers and vegan herbs you can add a decorative touch and a useful plant to any space.

You will need a few supplies to get started.  These items can be inexpensive and found at Home & Garden Stores, Discount Stores, Thrift Stores, and Garage Sales:

  • Pots
  • Hanging baskets
  • Flower box
  • Potting soil/ dirt
  • Seeds
Start with the potting soil/ dirt.  Most vegan seeds need to be covered with at least 3 inches of dirt and should be spread out.  First place dirt into the pot or basket, then spread the vegan seeds out, and top off with soil.

When planting vegan herbs,  create rows for the vegan seeds and keep them 5 inches apart.  This helps their growth and allows you to keep different types of herbs separated.   When growing an herb garden,  you should wait until the vegan herbs reach 6 inches in height before cutting and using for your meals.   Here are a few popular vegan herbs that are easy to grow:

  • Parsley
  • Basil
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Green Onions

Water you flowers or herbs frequently during the first three weeks.  Most seeds need plenty of water to get started.  Place the pot or basket in a heavily sunlit area

Do not plant any type of flower or herb until you are sure the frost season is over.  Plants need around 55-75 degrees to survive.  When the plants are young, they will need to be covered with plastic if the temperature drop to a frost level.  This will protect the young plants,  most older and larger plants can sustain lower temperatures.

Plants can also be regenerated by using a small stem clipping from the flowers main base.   Place this clipping into a vase or cup of water.  Leave in place until you see roots generate from the bottom of the clipping.  Once the roots are present,  start the planting process over again in a new pot or flower box.

These are a few helpful hints and ideas for planting flowers and vegan herbs.  Give your green thumb a chance and enjoy the results!
