The Vegan Diet

A vegetarian is a person who eats fruits, nuts, grains, and vegetables and avoids any product that is a derivative of animals. This includes milk, cheese, meat, fish, gelatin, and many others. Some vegetarians will eat eggs, milk, or fish but the strictest of vegetarians will avoid all products of animals. These people are call vegans.
Many people argue that the vegan diet is not healthy for you. They say the vegan diet does not contain the essential proteins your body needs to function. This is incorrect. What the body needs from protein are 9 amino acids that our body can’t naturally produce. These amino acids are found in meat products but also found in a wide variety of nuts and grains. While these nuts and grains contain only small portions, this requires the vegan to eat larger quantities to make up for the loss.

Why choose a vegan diet? A vegan diet is better for you in many ways over the traditional western diet. According to research, you are 60% less likely to develop cancer on a vegan diet. Vegans are also less likely to develop heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

The vegan diet is a diet for a healthy you for a healthier tomorrow. Not only will you be healthier on a vegan diet, the environment will thank you in the end. A lot of cattle herding effects the environment and causes permanent damage to our rainforests. There are a lot of different vegan diets available so make sure you pick the right one for you!
